POLIO SURVIVORS GROUP OF WNY NEWS LETTER MAY 1998 The speaker for the May 20th meeting will be Phyllis Schuster, a polio survivor, who will discuss and demonstrate a physical exercise routine she has developed based on the Chinese Art of Tai Chi. All of the movements involve gentle stretching that can be done by almost anyone. We probably all need it so come on out and join us. The meeting will be at St. Stephen's - Bethlehem United Church of Christ, on Wehrle, near Union at 7:15 p.m.. Everyone is welcome and we urge any polio survivors to meet with us. (Our meetings are at the same church at the same hour on the third Wedensday of each month except, July and August. WE HAVE A WINNER in the competition that was presented to students of Physical Therapy in the Buffalo area. The challenge was to come up with a PT program suited for polio survivors' and those with post polio syndrome. First and second prize goes to the same entrant because of his scholarly research, and his intelligent, sensitive approach to the subject and problem. The winner has been invited to be with us at the May 20th meeting-hope to see you there. Summer is upon us and we will be looking for interesting places to meet and things to do. If you have any suggestions bring them to the May 20th meeting. We'll post the schedule in the June newsletter. We were all very saddened to hear of the passing of Don Rohring. Don was a courageous polio survivor who faced life head-on without complaint. "Watch out world here I come" was Don's motto, and he lived it. He was a strong supporter of the group and will be missed very much. The publication date for Dr. Lauro Halsteads latest book MANAGING POST POLIO SYNDROME has been put forward to May 15, 1998.
