POLIO SURVIVORS SUPPORT GROUP OF WNY NEWSLETTER MAY 1997 Our guest speaker for the May 21 meeting will be Pamela Gay, nutritional consultant. She will discuss the rela- tionship between pain, stress and nutrition. There will be an opportunity after the presentation for Ms.Gay to receive and answer your questions. The meeting is Wednes- day May 21 at 7:15pm at St.Stephen's-Bethlehem United Church of Christ on Wehrle, near Union. THERE NEVER IS A CHARGE FOR ADMISSION TO ANY OF OUR MEETINGS, AND ALL POLIO SUR- VIVORS AS WELL AS INTERESTED MEDICAL PRO- FESSIONALS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC ARE ALWAYS WELCOME. We were all saddened to learn of the passing of Terri Bouquin. Terri was a founding member of our group and a cheerful and valued participant at our meetings. We will all miss her very much. Our deepest sympathy goes out to her husband, Dick, and to their family. Jean Arndt and Bill Kroll have been out of action with medical problems for most of the new year, Jean with a broken leg and Bill with spinal surgery. We have missed you both and hope to see you again real soon. At the June 18 meeting we will show an excellent medical training video concerning the unique medical problems that affect polio survivors. Don O'Connor has previewed the tape and reports that ir is very professionally done and so informative it is a MUST SEE for every polio survivor and their doctors. It features Dr.Richard Bruno, head of research and rehabilitation at the Kessler Institute and Nancy Frick, herself a polio survivor and the Executive Director of the Harvest Center. The film deals in significant detaiil with the effects of anesthesia on polio survivors facing surgery, post operative management, extreme sensitivity to pain, longer recuperative time and many other matters of sign- figance. MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW SO YOU WON'T MISS THIS ONE. C. Donald O'Connor aa364@freenet.Buffalo.edu
