Publication of material herein does not constitute endorsement by the March of Dimes or by the Polio Survivors Support Group of WNY. *********** Dr. Michael Adragna, anesthesiologist from Erie County Medical Center was out guest speaker for the April meeting. Dr. Adragna brought with him for a hands-on demonstration equipment he uses in his work. He discussed various types of anesthetics available and explained the advantages and disadvantages of each type. He emphasized that Polio survivors have special health problems and should discuss with the anesthesiologist before surgery , i.e. that they once had polio which resulted in muscle weakness that may affect breathing. *********** Our speaker for the May meeting will be Kathy Pacelli, a speech pathologist at ECMC. She will discuss swalowing problems relating to Polio survival. ************ The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 17 at 7:15pm at St. Stephen's-Bethlehem United Church of Christ on Wehrle, near Union. *********** Treasurer Henry Maciejewski reports that we have $2419.55 in the CD, $1789.71 in checking and $128.65 in the split club. *********** Thanks to Conrail for a $200 grant through their "Dollars for Doers" program. This grant was made possible through the efforts of Bud and Susie Foster. *********** It is again time to vote in new officers for next year. Nominations will be received at the May meeting. *********** Polio researcher Dr. Richard Bruno is doinf a study on late effects of polio and has requested our help. Those who are at the May meeting will be given questionnaires to fill out for him. Participation will, of course, vbe voluntary.
